It borders Côte d'Ivoire to the west, Burkina Faso to the north, Togo to the east, and the Gulf of Guinea to the south. .Ghana’s population is 23 millions (July 2007 estimate); the male/female ratio is 1.003. The birth rate is estimated at 29.85 births and the mortality rate at 9.55 per 1,000 people; the country population growth rate at 1.972%. The life expectancy is 59.12 years (58.31 years for males and 59.95 years for females). The total fertility rate is 3.89 children born per woman, and infant mortality rate is 53.56 deaths/1,000 live births. The prevalence of HIV/AIDS in adult population was estimated to be 3.2% (2006), with 350,000 people believed to be living with HIV/AIDS and 30,000 people have died in the pandemic. There were 25,000 children living with HIV/AIDS (2005). There were about 170,000 children living with HIV/AIDS (2006) and 29,000 orphaned by AIDS.
